At Holland Host Families, we intentionally work small-scale, personal, and with the space to truly support each family. With our psychological expertise and meticulous guidance (from selection to full onboarding in the Netherlands), we offer a level of support that goes far beyond standard “full service.” We are transparent about our fees. They consist of a one-time placement fee, monthly fees, and optional premium services — all aligned with the high-quality support we provide.
For first placements only, excluding travel costs (€0.25/km excl. VAT) and local parking fees.
Costs for recruitment and selection by our international partner agency, plus a psychological interview with the au pair conducted by Holland Host Families’ psychologists.
Psychological matching with a carefully selected au pair, screening of all required documents, support with booking the flight, and expert guidance for both the family and the au pair throughout the entire stay.
Welcome training, a personal welcome package (including a Museum Card), and full onboarding in the Netherlands: applying for a DigiD, opening a bank account, arranging an NS subscription, and applying for health insurance and healthcare allowance.
We handle the entire IND process: preparation and visa application, embassy appointments, scheduling the IND appointment for the residence permit, and all mandatory reports and evaluations throughout the year.
Four engaging events focused on exploring the Netherlands and meeting other au pairs (participation required).
The amount you pay to an insurance provider to take out an au pair insurance policy. This is a special, comprehensive insurance that protects your au pair during her stay in the Netherlands. It is not a standard travel insurance, but a tailored package that aligns with the rules and risks of the au pair programme.
Government fee paid to the IND for submitting the au pair’s residence permit application.
The approximate amount you will spend on the flexible return ticket for your au pair. The au pair generally pays half of the ticket, up to a maximum of €500 (unless otherwise agreed).

Au pairs receive a legally established allowance of €340 per month. This is not a salary, but a budget for personal expenses. Families pay this amount directly to the au pair each month.
Families reimburse half of the NS Weekend Vrij subscription (including 40% off during off-peak hours on weekdays). Any additional travel costs are paid by the au pair herself.
The host family provides a contribution towards phone costs.The au pair can either arrange her own mobile plan, or the family can provide a SIM card. Any additional costs are the responsibility of the au pair.
The au pair lives with the host family and receives full board and lodging: a private bedroom, all daily meals, WiFi, and use of the household facilities. This is a mandatory part of the exchange programme and is separate from the weekly pocket money.
Optional Child First Aid course, offered partly online and partly in classroom sessions at various locations across the Netherlands. Includes CPR and AED training. The au pair receives an official certificate upon completion.
If desired, the host family and the au pair may decide together that the au pair will follow a Dutch language course to support her integration and development. Any course or tuition fees are fully covered by the host family.
For families who prefer a fully worry-free experience, we offer a range of additional premium services:
• Airport pick-up: personal reception and a safe ride home
• IND assistance: support during the appointment to collect the residence permit.
• TB test: guidance during the mandatory medical check.
• Departure service: if desired, we pick her up again and accompany her back to the airport for a warm and respectful farewell.
Rate: €125 per hour, excluding travel costs (€0.25 per kilometre, excl. VAT) and local parking fees.
