With our background in psychology, we carefully select and guide an au pair who truly fits your family. We stay involved throughout the entire year with coaching, check-ins, and events, ensuring your au pair quickly finds her place. We support the full onboarding process: from the visa application to booking flights, opening a bank account, and arranging DigiD, health insurance, and healthcare allowance. Prefer complete peace of mind? We can also arrange airport transfers, guidance to the IND, and support with the mandatory TB test.
For a first placement, we’re happy to visit your home to get to know your family. We discuss your expectations and wishes regarding the au pair, so we clearly understand what’s needed for the perfect match. Of course, we also look at the au pair’s living space to ensure she will have a comfortable and safe environment. Have we worked together before? Then we already know your family situation and, after a brief evaluation of the previous placement, we begin the matching process right away.
Based on the intake, we start a focused search for an au pair who fits your family. We select on personality, values, and motivation — carefully aligned with your family dynamics and supported by psychological expertise. In practice, we often work with South African au pairs, as this cultural background usually aligns well with Dutch family life. In addition, Afrikaans-speaking au pairs tend to pick up Dutch quickly, which makes the start in the household smoother. Throughout the matching process, we guide and advise you every step of the way, so you can make your choice with confidence. We never rush: we keep searching until it truly feels right.
Once the perfect match is made, we help you submit all required documents to the IND correctly. Our local partner in South Africa—who was an au pair in the Netherlands herself—guides the au pair through every step needed to obtain the entry visa. She also prepares the au pair (in her native language) for life within a Dutch family, making the transition much easier. When the visa is approved, we assist you in booking the flight to the Netherlands. The arrival date is planned together, ensuring it aligns seamlessly with your family’s schedule.
The arrival in the Netherlands is usually an exciting and busy period, as many practical things need to be arranged in the first weeks. We’re happy to take all of this off your hands. We guide your au pair in applying for her DigiD, health insurance, allowances, and in opening a bank account. This allows everyone to settle in calmly, while we get to know her well from the very beginning. During a welcome session, we help her find her way in the Netherlands and introduce her to other au pairs by adding her to our WhatsApp community. Prefer complete support? We can also arrange the airport transfer, accompany her to the IND to collect her residence permit, and guide her through the mandatory tuberculosis screening.
Throughout the au pair year, we remain closely involved with your family and the au pair. After the first two weeks, we check in to hear how you’re experiencing the match and whether she is settling into your family. We then send periodic online evaluations (after 1, 3, 6, and 9 months), giving both you and the au pair the opportunity to share how things are going. This allows us to make adjustments whenever needed. Finally, we organise a seasonal au pair event four times a year. These events give the au pair the chance to make new connections and deepen her understanding of Dutch culture. This way, we stay connected, ensure the year runs smoothly, and help make the experience truly unforgettable.
As the year comes to an end, we guide you through a warm and thoughtful transition. We help the departing au pair with the practical steps of leaving — such as cancelling insurance and subscriptions — and reflect with you on the year: what worked well, what could be improved, and what this means for a potential new placement. If you’d like to welcome another au pair, we start the search well in advance (ideally around three months before departure) to ensure a smooth transition with plenty of time for selection and preparation. For families who value continuity, a few days of overlap between the departing and new au pair is possible. This creates a gentle handover of tasks and gives everyone the space for a calm and meaningful goodbye.
